Rocket Start
- At the race countdown, make sure you get off to a good start by holding down the A Button just before the number '2' disappears. Time it right and you’ll get an instant kick of speed.
Track shortcuts
- Delfino Square
There are two shortcuts here, both requiring a Mushroom to get across. The first involves boost-jumping across the harbour to the wooden jetty on the other side. Less risky is to cut through the gap in the buildings on the right side of the harbour by boosting across the muddy track.
Tick-Tock Clock
It’s not exactly a shortcut but you can drive over one of the two vertical moving cogs to give yourself a boost. Both cogs rotate in opposite directions, so make sure you take the one that’s moving forwards.
Bowser Castle
When you reach the rotating circular room, drive all the way around it instead of exiting on the left side, and you will cut out a substantial section of track.
Mushroom Bridge
After the first tunnel, look for the grey path coming off to the right and use a Mushroom to boost across it. But make sure you’re prepared for a sharp right turn upon landing.
Sky Garden
About halfway around the track are two ramps that allow you to boost-jump across to the other side, but be careful not to fall off the edge of the track when you land.
Yoshi Circuit
After the second bend, aim your kart towards a gap in the edge of the track and activate a Mushroom. You’ll fly across to the other side, missing out an entire corner. While in mid-air, make sure you turn to the right so that you’ll be lined up with the track when you land, otherwise you’ll end up in the water.
